![]() In lines 4f1-51 the ending of the poem goes elsewhere. When he then says that the ‘dark ground is under him’ all of a sudden and he hears the drummers beat calling to him in lines 33-37. Lines 26-29 using and repeating words such as down to emphasis he is in a low place where he can hardly come back from. Towards the end he says that after the ‘drum stick knock’ the darkness fell over him and that the water was gone all of a sudden making the poem turn a corner as if heading into a tragic direction. Then the ‘stick hit sound’ and the ‘boat is ready yet the dark is still steady’. It is evident he believes slavery to be lonely as it is silenced. ![]() ![]() In the first line he mentioned that the “limbo stick is the silence in front of me” and in the 7th line he writes, “long dark night is the silence in front of me”. Kamau is describing slavery on a boat by saying, “stick is the whip and the dark deck is slavery” in lines 20 and 21. It is apparent that Kamau wants to show the connection between the dance limbo and the slaves by using limbo as an extended metaphor, which is between the dance Limbo and the slaves as well.
